"Clean & Cool" Documentary (and teaching project)Family Connections, a NJ non profit crisis intervention, social services group was awarded a grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation based on our project pitch.
THE GOAL: Produce an 8-10 minute video showcasing the "Clean and Cool" Program – a program for teenagers involved with substance abuse and other high risk behaviors.
THE PITCH: Instead of just shooting a video about the program – make shooting the video become PART of the Clean & Cool program by including the kids in the process. Meet once a week for 18 weeks with kids interested in the project, teach them the basics of filmmaking and have them shoot the interviews with their peers in the program and their counselors. The kids would also take mini dv camcorders home each week and do "diary" like shooting of themselves, to be interwoven into the final product.
